- Kuwaiti food is primarily based on the staple product
of rice.
- However, there are a large number of different ways to
prepare the rice, and each family has their own way of making
one of the several traditional meals. One of the most common,
and most Kuwaiti, of these rice dishes is machbous, which
is saffron rice topped with either chicken or lamb, served
with a tomato paste sauce.
- Fuul, falafel and humus are the three staples food. Fuul
is a paste made from fava beans, garlic and lemon, usually
served with oil.
- Falafel is deep-fried balls of chickpea paste with spices,
served in a piece of khobz (Arabic flat bread) with pickled
vegetables or tomato.
- Humus is cooked chickpeas ground into a paste and mixed
with garlic and lemon. Arabic bread is eaten with absolutely
everything and is also called aish, meaning 'life'. It's
round and flat and makes a good filler.
- Main dishes are usually chicken, kebabs or meat and vegetable
stews.
