FACULTY INITIATIVES -- Developing health care leaders of today...

MAO faculty initiatives include career development awards, leadership seminars and conferences, as well as networking and recognition events. Monthly MAO enews includes multiple initiatives and offerings from MAO, MGH, and HMS for career development, networking and funding.

  • Minority Faculty Development Award Program (MFDAP) – The MFDAP is designed for MGH-appointed faculty with less than five years post-training experience and fellows in their transition to junior faculty positions. These two awards include a grant and a loan forgiveness component and are based on the academic career of the applicant, either as a physician-scientist or clinician-teacher.
  • Career development conference and faculty seminars – MAO co-sponsors a yearly faculty development conference with the HMS Office for Diversity and Community Partnership and affiliated hospitals. MAO also sponsors seminars on topics including: opportunities in leadership and health policy, professional development and negotiating employment contracts.
  • Chester Pierce Research Society (CPRS) – MAO sponsors a bi-monthly luncheon speaker series named in honor of MGH Professor emeritus in Psychiatry, Chester Pierce. CPRS is designed for minority researchers to present their clinical, basic science and health services/policy research to the MGH community.
  • Networking, Recognition and Social Events – MAO holds various events throughout the year to help URM faculty connect with each other as well as the larger MAO community of students, residents and fellows.

  • Research and fellowship funding opportunities – MAO serves as a central clearinghouse for hundreds of opportunities for URM students, residents and faculty.

 


 

Affiliated Partnerships

MGH Center for Faculty Development : The Center for Faculty Development (CFD) was established to facilitate career development of ALL MGH faculty. This umbrella organization addresses all aspects of faculty development, as well as, specializing on the clinical faculty through the Office for Clinical Careers (OCC), the research communities through the Office for Research Career Development (ORCD) and the women faculty through the Office for Women's Careers (OWC).

The Consortium of Harvard Medical School Affiliate Offices for Faculty Development and Diversity (CHADD): MAO is a founding member of CHADD created to collaborate on common issues relating to URM, Women and Research community, eg, race and ethnicity data collection, chief search training.

Harvard Medical School Office for Diversity and Community Partnership - (ODCP): The Office for Diversity and Community Partnership at Harvard Medical School was created to promote increased recruitment, retention and advancement of diverse faculty, particularly underrepresented minority faculty, at Harvard Medical School and to oversee all diversity activities involving Harvard Medical School faculty, trainees, students and staff.
