BiographyDr. McFarland had his internal medicine and cardiology training at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and since 1980, has practiced general cardiology there. He spent time at the Cambridge Hospital (now the Cambridge Health Alliance) serving as chief of cardiology and chief of Medicine before returning to the MGH in 1980.
 
Besides his interest in clinical practice, he has an interest in clinical practice improvement, and has served on numerous hospital committees and task forces seeking to improve patient safety and efficient practice.  His current major project is serving as physician leader in converting the current inpatient paper record to a paperless electronic medical record.
