Biography
Dr. Lorie Smith is an assistant professor in the palliative care department at Massachusetts General Hospital. She received her medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Following medical school, she completed an internal medicine residency and an integrated fellowship in Palliative Medicine and Geriatrics at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. During her fellowship, she also completed the Montefiore-Einstein Certificate Program in Bioethics and Medical Humanities. Dr. Smith is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Geriatric Medicine with the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Joining the MGH and Harvard Medical School faculty in 2010, Dr. Smith serves as an inpatient attending on the palliative care service, helping to meet the needs of seriously ill hospitalized patients and their families. Along with her clinical responsibilities, she also teaches palliative care skills to residents and fellows. She coordinates the palliative medicine rotation for the MGH geriatric fellows and is working to develop a curriculum specifically for these learners. Along with her clinical and educational interests, Dr. Smith has a strong interest in quality improvement related to the care of seriously ill adults.
