BiographyDr. Azzoli completed residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, followed by a fellowship in Medical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York, NY. He served on the faculty at MSKCC from 2002-2012 during which he was recognized for excellence in teaching, and won the fellowship teaching award in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2012.
In July, 2012, he joined the Thoracic Oncology Program at Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. He currently serves as the Chair of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Clinical Practice Guideline Committee, in charge of developing evidenced-based guidelines for practicing oncologists. He has served as first author, or co-author, of every ASCO lung cancer guideline published since 2003.
Dr. Azzoli's research interests include the development of new drugs for patients with all stages of lung cancer, with special interest in combining drug therapy with surgery or radiation to improve rates of cure in patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer. He also works to develop new tissue and blood tests to guide therapy.
