Gomez-Isla Lab

Dr. Gomez-Isla investigates the neurobiology of normal aging, Alzheimers, and other dementias.
  • Lab Phone: 617-643-5562
  • Neurology Access Center: 1-855-644-6387

The Gomez-Isla lab focuses on the development and characterization of transgenic mouse models of Alzheimer's disease and on testing novel therapeutic strategies. Research is also conducted with human brain tissue from individuals who suffered Alzheimer's disease while alive.

Dr. Gomez-Isla’s clinical research focuses on cognitively intact individuals across the age spectrum in order to search for molecular mechanisms responsible for individual vulnerability or resilience to this type of dementia.

Genetic cross-interaction between APOE and PRNP

figure showing age dependent risks for sCJD and AD

In this work, we investigated for the first time, APOE and PRNP genotypes simultaneously in 474 AD and 175 sporadic CJD (sCJD) patients compared to a common control population of 335 subjects. Differences in genotype distribution between patients and control subjects were studied by logistic regression analysis using age and gender as covariates.
