Educational Programs at the Mucosal Immunology Laboratory
Weekly Research Seminar
Each week the Developmental Gastroenterology and Mucosal Immunology Laboratory has a research seminar that includes guest speakers, research-in-progress by postdoctoral fellows, or a research journal club. Each member of the laboratory is invited to come and participate. The seminar series is coordinated by Dr. Bobby Cherayil.
See the list of seminars for the January to June 2006.
Didactic Courses
In addition to the weekly research seminar for members of the laboratory, the faculty of the Developmental Gastroenterology and Mucosal Immunology Laboratories offers several courses for its students, summer fellows, and research fellows which facilitate their orientation to a research experience. Each participant is given a textbook to act as a resource for a twice weekly or weekly meeting. Each participant is expected to read the textbook and periodically present specific topics.
Courses offered include:
Molecular Cell Biology
Glycobiology
Nutritional Aspects of Gastrointestinal Immunology
Additional Educational Opportunities
In addition to Developmental Gastroenterology and Mucosal Immunology Laboratory educational opportunities, students and postdoctoral fellows have an opportunity to take part in enrichment programs in two NIH-funded Research Centers: The Center for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, CSIBD (P30 DK43351) and the Harvard Clinical Nutrition Research Center, HNCRC (P30 DK40561). Each Center has a yearly symposium on "cutting edge" science in their area and monthly seminars on "breakthrough topics."
