Consultations and Referrals

To request a consult from the General Neurology service or from a specific Neurology subspecialty clinic, please ask your primary care physician to complete a Referral Form (PDF) (also available as a MS Word file) and fax it to the subspecialty number on the form. Appointments

Before making an appointment, please call the Massachusetts General Hospital Registration Center at 1-866-211-6588 to get a patient number and “blue card”. 

Billing and Insurance

MGH Customer Service Department at 617-726-2040. 
So that they may provide you with the most complete and accurate billing service, please have the following information at hand:

  • Your MGH Blue Card
  • Your current insurance information
  • A copy of your referral from your primary care provider (if required)
  • Your co-pay amount
  • Your outpatient visit or inpatient admit and discharge dates

Partners Online Specialty Consultations

Doctors and patients may register to receive online consultations with a specialist at MGH or other Partners hospital without coming to Boston. To register or learn more, visit https://econsults.partners.org, go to the “Patients” tab and follow the directions. More information is available on our For Physicians page

Please note:

  • Both doctor and patient must register to have access to the service
  • All communication takes place through the website only
  • Fees for services are not covered by insurance
  • Requires medical records to be submitted in English
  • Response time is approximately one week
