Dexterity for charity

It takes a very steady hand to remove a wrench from the ankle, a butterfly from the stomach, or a charley horse from the hip. But eight teams of highly skilled MGH employees arrived on the Bulfinch lawn ready to take on the challenge of life-size game board proportions.

Lobbying for health

Residents and fellows from pediatric training programs across the state visited the MGH for a day-long training program to learn how to advocate for children during the ninth annual Residents and Fellows Day at the Massachusetts State House on June 11.

Parading proud

The MGH Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Employee Resource Group marched with LGBT members from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the annual Boston Pride Parade on June 14.

Partners eCare: Online patient materials toolkit

As the Partners eCare Revenue Cycle July 12 launch date at the MGH approaches, staff are encouraged to visit the updated Partners eCare toolkit to view a variety of helpful educational materials, including a frequently-asked-question flyer for patients – available in both English and Spanish – and a service-oriented slide deck that includes scripting for staff who will be checking in, scheduling or working with patients.

Patient transport associate receives 2014 Ricardo Diaz Award

Eleven million pounds of linen delivered, 12 million pieces of incoming and outgoing mail processed, 5,200 keys cut and 38,000 medical devices supported and maintained – these numbers are a small sampling of the magnitude of work accomplished by MGH operations support staff throughout the past year.

Pink tips for patients

The late Ann Murray Paige is remembered at the MGH for her words and wisdom.

Radiation Oncology unveils proton exhibit

To showcase the MGH’s leadership and success in proton therapy, an exhibit recently was installed in the lobby of the Francis Burr Proton Center.

Safe and secure

The Charlestown Substance Abuse Coalition, a program of the MGH Center for Community Health Improvement, the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce and Boston Police, recently hosted the fifth annual “Take Back” prescription drug disposal day.

Strong bond

The bond between a primary care resident and a patient runs deep. For the second year in a row, the MGH honored patients for their role as exceptional teachers of internal medicine residents in the primary care clinic setting at the MGH Department of Medicine Teaching Awards Ceremony on June 5.

Weissleder named to Thrall professorship

MGH and Harvard Medical School faculty gathered May 19 at the medical school to celebrate the newly established Thrall Family Professorship in Radiology, named in honor of Jim Thrall, MD, and its first incumbent, Ralph Weissleder, MD, PhD, director of the MGH Center for Systems Biology.
