Mass. General and Brigham and Women's
ranked on U.S. News national Honor Roll
McLean and Spaulding Rehabilitation
Hospitals also rank high
BOSTON - July 2, 2004 - Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)
and Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), the founders of Partners
HealthCare, have earned spots on the U.S.
News and World Report
annual national hospital "Honor Roll." This year,
MGH ranked third nationally, while BWH ranked twelfth. No other
Massachusetts or New England hospital made the "Honor Roll."
Partners members McLean Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital
also ranked high in their specialty areas. McLean ranked fourth
nationally in psychiatry, while Spaulding ranked eighth in rehabilitation
and was again the only New England rehabilitation hospital making
the list. In addition, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which with
Partners formed Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare, ranked fourth nationally
in cancer.
"Our physicians, nurses and other caregivers deserve the credit
- and our thanks - for this recognition," said James J. Mongan,
MD, Partners president and CEO. "They give their all and the
best possible care to our patients every day. We congratulate each
and every one of them."
Of the hospitals included in the survey, MGH ranked among the top
10 in 12 specialties, including: cardiology, hormonal disorders,
digestive disorders, geriatrics, gynecology, neurology/neurosurgery,
kidney disease, orthopedics, psychiatry (#1), respiratory, rheumatology,
and urology. BWH ranked among the top 10 in five specialties, including:
cardiology, hormonal disorders, gynecology, kidney disease (#1),
and rheumatology.
