| The H1N1 influenza is a virus that has recently caused illness in people across the globe. The virus is spread very similarly to the way in which seasonal influenza is spread – mainly through coughing or sneezing. H1N1 influenza was previously referred to as “swine flu” but further study has shown that the virus is different from influenza viruses that normally occur in pigs in North America. H1N1 influenza is actually a combination of swine, avian and human viruses. Symptoms of H1N1 influenza in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people with H1N1 influenza also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. |
