EMPLOYEES' INAUGURAL CELEBRATION: Staff and employees of the new Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care mark its historic opening.
Marking the culmination of a longstanding clinical collaboration that combines the academic medicine of MGH and community-based care of North Shore Medical Center (NSMC), approximately 200 guests -- including administrators, caregivers and employees from both organizations -- gathered May 29 at the newly constructed Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care in Danvers for an employee celebration. The June 1 opening of the ambulatory facility followed several years of collaborative research, planning and preparation with hundreds of MGH and NSMC staff members working together to coordinate the center's construction and operations.
Featuring 122,000 square feet of multispecialty ambulatory space, the Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care offers a full array of outpatient services for the residents of the North Shore and beyond, including a comprehensive cancer center, breast health center, adult and pediatric day surgery, cardiology care and imaging. Specialty programs at the site include orthopaedics, pediatrics, urology, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery and otolaryngology. Along with a primary care practice, these programs will be opened in the center's adjacent Endicott Medical Office building beginning this summer.
At the employee celebration, David Torchiana, MD, MGPO chairman and CEO, and Robert Norton, NSMC president, offered welcoming remarks thanking all of the staff whose hard work helped make the new center a reality. Guests also enjoyed an entertaining talk from Loretta LaRoche, humor consultant, stress management professional and member of the MGH advisory council for Anxiety and Depression. LaRoche used humor and insight to inspire the employees to create exceptional patient-centered care teams. Following the talks, a barbeque luncheon was served in the facility's main lobby.
Many individuals from both organizations and Partners HealthCare contributed to the planning and creation of the center. Among those who led the project were Anne Dubitzky, MGPO vice president of Managed Care Contracting and Marketing; Sally Mason Boemer, MGH senior vice president for Finance; Pam Lawrence, NSMC senior vice president for Strategy, Marketing and Community Relations; Roxanne Ruppel, NSMC vice president of Strategy and Planning; Terry Garfinkle, MD, MBA, interim medical director at the facility; and Elena Sierra, the center's executive administrative director.
"We hope many of you will have the chance to see the Mass General/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care," says Peter L. Slavin, MD, MGH president. "Not only does this beautiful building represent a significant milestone for the hospital, but it also marks an important step in meeting the ongoing health care needs of those who live and work on or near the North Shore."
