Mission

CACI was created to serve the academic oral and maxillofacial surgery community as a national and international “destination” for training and mentoring clinical investigators. CACI functions as both a clinical research group and a center for training the next generation of clinical investigators in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Clinical research is a growing specialty among accepted scientific pursuits, answering the demand created by the evidence-based clinical practice movement. In oral and maxillofacial surgery, clinical research and the ability to support evidence-based clinical practice lag behind that of other medical and dental specialties.

In addition, within the academic oral and maxillofacial surgery community, there is a diminishing supply of leaders and mentors available to staff the faculties of training programs in the specialty. CACI is devoted to expanding the number of academically trained oral and maxillofacial surgeons by providing a means to reach productivity as independent clinical researchers.
