Fellowship in Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
This unique program provides Board-eligible oral and maxillofacial surgeons who are interested in academic careers with specialized extended training in pediatric maxillofacial surgery.
The fellowship in pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery at Mass General has been in existence since 1996. The goal of the fellowship is to provide training and experience in pediatric maxillofacial surgery in preparation for an academic career. Applicants are required to have completed their basic OMS training and be Board-certified or Board-eligible.

The Pediatric OMS Fellowship is a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare the candidate for a productive career as an academic oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Candidates for this fellowship should be prepared to move into an academic position following completion of the fellowship.
The Pediatric OMS Fellow pursues a rigorous agenda that is approximately 60% research and 40% patient care. These activities are describe in more detail in the "Clinical" and "Research" tabs.
The fellow will spend 40% time devoted to patient care. Fellows participate in the care of patients on the Pediatric OMS Service and also participate in the Mass General Hospital for Children Cleft Lip/Craniofacial Clinic. Fellows who are eligible for medical or dental licensure in Massachusetts may serve as junior attending surgeons for the Ward OMS Service, covering trauma and elective cases. The elective surgical experience is primarily with Drs. Leonard Kaban and Maria Troulis on the Pediatric OMS Service.
The fellow will spend 60% time working on a variety of research projects in areas supported by the Skeletal Biology Research Center. These include the fields of distraction osteogenesis, 3-dimensional imaging and surgical navigation, minimally invasive surgery, jaw tumors in children, and craniofacial anomalies. Fellows will complete at least one major research project and several publishable manuscripts.
