Leonard Kaban, MD, DMD, chief of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with the support of the MGH and MGPO, has formally established the Division of Dentistry within the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department. "The MGH Dental Group, our multi-specialty group dental practice, has been so successful that its staff can now pursue the greater mission of a formally recognized division," says Kaban. The new division will allow for long-term strategic growth opportunities, working toward increased activity in teaching and research, while retaining its clinical practice component of the Dental Group.
Kaban has named Agnes Lau, DMD, as the chief of the division. On the MGH staff since 1990, Lau is an assistant professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, as well as director of the BWH Harvard-Wide General Practice Residency Program in Dentistry. The new Division of Dentistry has five general dentists and specialists in periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics and facial pain. Staff members are active in outpatient care, inpatient consultations, operating room dental rehabilitation and community outreach, especially with regard to senior and pediatric care. Many MGH employees receive their dental care at the practice, which is located at 165 Cambridge Street.
