Dr. Walter Guralnick presents 'History of OMS' at Grand Rounds
Professor Emeritus regales standing room crowd in historical Ether Dome
Dr. Walter Guralnick, Professor Emeritus and chief of OMS from 1967 until 1982, made a historic appearance at OMS Grand Rounds to present the "History of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery". The OMS Department's history, which traces its origins to the first demonstration of ether at Massachusetts General Hospital, is being celebrated during the coming year in anticipation of the Mass General's upcoming Bicentennial Celebration in 2011. The standing-room-only crowd in the Ether Dome included many Harvard faculty who had been students of Dr. Guralnick's, including the current chief of service, Dr. Leonard B. Kaban and the current Dean of Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Bruce Donoff.
This event kicks off a year of remembrance and celebration of the history of OMS at Mass General in conjunction with the Hospital's 2011 Bicentennial Celebration. In addition, the Department of OMS has launched an online OMS Museum and will cap off the year's activities with a Bicentennial Event for OMS-Mass General alumni on June 17-18.
