The Sarcoma Molecular Biology Laboratory under the direction of and Lawrence Weissbach, PhD, MBA, and Francis Hornicek, MD, PhD, is investigating tumor physiology and novel chemotherapeutic agents to further advance the treatment of malignant tumors. The Laboratory is investigating ways that chondrosarcoma cells may develop resistance to chemotherapeutic agents. The overall objectives of this laboratory are to explore biological mechanisms of tumors arising in bone and soft tissues, and perform translational research into new treatment options for patients afflicted with musculoskeleton tumors. For certain tumors such as chondrosarcoma, treatment options are limited once the tumor has metastasized, and this laboratory is interested in improving existing therapies as well as devising novel treatments for these tumors.

The Lab is working on a number of novel research programs and members of the Lab have collaborated with researchers at Children's Hospital in Boston, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Bern in Switzerland, and PharmaMar in Spain. This Laboratory has also published numerous articles pertaining to sarcoma biology. Please refer to our Publications page for more information.
