Care focuses mainly on adult patients with a life threatening illness including but not limited to, cancer, cardiac disease, renal disease, pulmonary disease, neurological disease, trauma, HIV/AIDS. The nurse will become familiar with comprehensive care which includes the interdisciplinary process, evaluation of pain and symptoms, management of pain and symptoms of people with terminal illnesses, psychosocial support, and bereavement care. Care is provided in the spectrum of settings beginning with inpatient units within an academic teaching hospital, outpatient clinics, home care with hospice or home health, rehabilitation institutions, and Skilled Nursing Facilities.
