Welcome to the MGH Pathology website. This site contains up-to-date information on the Pathology Department’s training and educational programs, research opportunities and clinical activities, as well as contact information for the pathology staff.

The mission of the MGH Pathology Service is excellence in service to patients, present and future. For present patients, our goal is accurate diagnosis, communicated effectively and efficiently. For future patients, we promote research in the diagnosis and pathogenesis of disease and train leaders in pathology.

Our department is completely subspecialized, so that each organ system has its dedicated pathology team of specialists, in many cases combining clinical and research interests. We are structured this way to optimize clinical expertise, teaching and research productivity.

Pathology is the discipline that bridges basic science and clinical medicine. We seek novel approaches derived through research to improve diagnosis and therapy. Pathology has entered an era of exhilarating growth. MGH Pathology is committed to be part of this revolution in medical care that will lead to earlier diagnosis, more precise prognosis and tailored therapy.
