Diabetes Laboratory
The Diabetes Laboratory performs measurements of glycemic control for the diagnosis and management of diabetes mellitus. The major assay performed is a measure of glycated hemoglobin which reflects the average glucose control over the preceding two to three months.
A variety of assay methods are used, depending on the clinical setting. The MGH Diabetes Laboratory is a primary reference laboratory for the National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program (NGSP). Other assays relevant to clinical research in diabetes and metabolism are performed.
