Laboratory Medicine

Welcome to the Division of Laboratory Medicine, which is led by Dr. Michael Laposata (Associate Chief, Laboratory Medicine). The Division consists of the Blood Transfusion Service and the MGH Clinical Laboratories. Our team of over 525 technologists, physicians, scientists, and other staff is engaged around the clock, every day of the year.

The Division of Laboratory Medicine offers consultation on laboratory test selection and test interpretation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Division specialists provide consultation in coagulation, hematology, hematopathology, immunology, microbiology, and clinical chemistry, including toxicology and transfusion medicine. In additional to full-service laboratories covering every area of laboratory medicine, the Division also offers a wide variety of testing in endocrinology, tissue typing, hepatitis testing, and specialized lipid testing.
