Specialty areas: Eye Pathology and Clinical Ocular Oncology

Sign out: Eyes and periocular tissues, including orbital tissues, the lacrimal drainage apparatus, lacrimal gland, conjunctiva, eyelids, the periocular skin, and periocular bones.

Research Interests: Focus has been on ophthalmic oncology and the characterization of ocular and adnexal (conjunctiva, eyelids, and orbital soft tissue and bones) inflammations and tumors.  Main ophthalmic pathologic probes have consisted of light and transmission electron microscopy and immunoperoxidase staining.  Pre-malignant and malignant conjunctival melanocytic disorders (so-called primary acquired melanosis) have been intensively studied.  Clinicopathologic series with immunologic investigations have been employed in the study of lympho-proliferations of the ocular adnexa.  Finally, idiopathic orbital inflammations (pseudotumors) and Wegener’s granulomatosis have been subjected to more rigorous clinicopathologic diagnostic criteria.
