PALS Certification

Support (PALS) Provider Course for currently active healthcare providers who initiate and direct advanced life support beyond the first few minutes through the stabilization or transport phases of pediatric emergency. The PALS Provider Course is designed to aid the pediatric healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills  necessary to efficiently evaluate and effectively manage seriously ill infants and children.

Students must adequately prepare to successfully complete the PALS Provider course. The course does not teach CPR skills, interpretation of rhythm strips, or basic PALS pharmacology.

Before taking the course students must be proficient in the following:
1. Performing child and infant CPR skill using the 2005 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.
2. Reading and interpreting basic ECG rhythm strips.
3. Knowledge of basic PALS pharmacology
4. Evaluating a seriously ill or injured child using the systematic approach to pediatric assessment outlined in the PALS Provider Manual.


Students should complete the self-assessment CD-based test on the PALS student CD and bring a printout of their scores to the PALS course, students who do not complete the prerequisites listed above will not be able to pass the Provider Course.

Pre-Registration Required.

Program awards PALS certification and no contact hours for continuing education.

Registration Fees: 

Free for MGH Nurses and Therapists.

$100.00 for MGH Residents-in-training.

$225.00 for Non-Partners Nurses and Therapists.

$275.00 for Physicians.

The Norman Knight Nursing Center does not accept credit card payments for registration of programs.  
Public transportation is strongly recommended  to attend continuing education programs. Garages in the vicinity of MGH generally charge approximately $ 40  per day. MGH does not reimburse for parking.
