As a Patient Care Services (PCS) executive team we believe that leadership performance is critical to mission effectiveness. We also believe that all staff have leadership potential and will, therefore demonstrate leadership behaviors in their work. Finally, we believe that leadership is a skill based upon life's experiences, knowledge and opportunities for learning.

The Leadership Development Program is one strategy for promoting staff development. Individuals in formal management and clinical leadership roles add strength to this initiative by being present for staff and entering into supportive and/or mentoring relationships. Finally, peer to peer relationships, based upon mutual respect and a genuine willingness to be helpful, create an environment in which learning is fostered.

PCSEC endorses the definition of leadership as challenging the process, inspiring a vision, enabling others to act, modeling the way and encouraging the heart. (Kouzes and Posner, 1995).

The Leadership Development Program is a series of learning opportunities designed to promote individual and group learning based on a set of established competencies. Examples include but are not limited to:
