infectious diseases. The unit is committed
to the development of novice staff. New graduate nurses are nurtured
and supported by their preceptors as they gain skill and knowledge
caring for patients. New nurses receive a comprehensive, one-on-one
orientation. In addition, there are many opportunities for new learning
experiences, both on and off the unit. You will work directly with
a clinical nurse specialist and other experienced nurses as you
develop your practice. Experienced staff have the opportunity to
influence practice and share their knowledge by joining hospital
wide collaborative governance committees.
Weekly staff meetings ensure that staff is abreast
of current issues, and provide an opportunity for dialogue with
colleagues. Unit based quality initiatives include fall prevention
and hand hygiene.
PATIENT CARE DELIVERY MODEL
The patient care delivery model is a patient-focused
model, supported by primary nursing. Patient-focused care is high
quality, comprehensive, accessible, supportive and personalized
care.
TEAM MEMBERS
Patient care associates support the RN
staff. The support staff consists of operation associates, unit
service associates and pharmacy technicians. To inquire about positions
available on this unit, contact Christina Stratakias at CStratakias@partners.org.
SCHEDULING PRACTICES
The RN staff is supported by patient care
associates and nursing students. A main practice theme on our unit
is teamwork and collaboration. Nurses enjoy collegial relationships,
and as members of a multidisciplinary team, participate in daily
rounds, and collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals
in managing patient care.
STAFF ORIENTATION
Staff schedules are driven by patient need.
The scheduling process is staff driven and flexible to accomodate
personal and educational needs. Once the schedule is posted the
staff manage changes.
EDUCATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Staff education and development is supported
by The Norman Knight Nursing Center for Clinical & Professional Development. Full and partial day programs
are offered. Staff may also access outside educational opportunities.
The teaching environment provides staff with a daily opportunity
to discuss patient care related educational issues with members
of the graduate medical education program and with other members
of the care-delivery team.
Clinical Nurse Specialists provide educational
support to staff on the nursing units. Staff has time allocated
and the necessary support to offer educational programs to other
staff members. Nursing Grand Rounds programs are offered on a regular
basis.
Staff RNs have the opportunity to participate
as a nurse preceptor or a team leader. RNs may advance in their
clinical practice and demonstrate proficiency through the Clinical
Recognition Program.
