PROFILE
The Trauma Program is not based out of
any one particular unit. The program is patient focussed and we
utilize many units throughout the house. As patients enter the system
through the Emergency Department, the Trauma Nurse Practitioners
work with the surgical teams to enhance the patient experience across
the continuum of care. UNIT FOCUS
The Trauma Program admits approximately 2000
patients a year. The program includes all patients that are admitted
through the Emergency Department, or direct transfers into the operating
room or an in-patient unit. The MGH maintains a separate ACS verification status for the
Level 1 Adult Trauma Program, the Level 1 Adult Burn Program, and
the MassGeneral for Children Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Program.
PATIENT CARE DELIVERY MODEL
The patient care delivery model is a patient-focused
model, supported by primary nursing, Trauma Nurse Practitioners, and
a comprehensive surgical team approach to the trauma patient. Patient-focused
care is high quality, comprehensive, accessible, supportive and personalized
care. The Trauma NP's work with the Adult trauma service, the Pediatric
trauma service, and the Orthopaedic trauma service.
EDUCATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Staff education and development is supported
by The Norman Knight Nursing Center for Clinical & Professional Development. Full and partial day programs
are offered. Staff may also access outside educational opportunities.
The teaching environment provides staff with a daily opportunity
to discuss patient care related educational issues with members
of the graduate medical education program and with other members
of the care-delivery team. |
