Certification Exam

  • ANCC certification exams are administered by authorized testing agencies located across the country. The exams are given in either computer-based or paper-and-pencil format. Paper-and-pencil exams are generally given twice a year. Dates for the computer-based exams will be sent to applicants by the authorized testing agency. Each exam has 175 questions and is administered over a 4-hour period.


  • Specialty Certification Board Exams from the various Specialty organizations vary in their format. some are paper-and-pencil, while other are computer-based. They may be given at certain designated dates throughout the year, or be available on-line by appointment at any time during the year. The length of the exam varies, but is on average 2-4 hours.
