Educational and Financial Support for Certification

Educational support is available in a variety of ways, depending on the specialty:

  • MGH offers an annual review course for both the Neurological Nurses (CNRN) and the Critical Care (CCRN) exams.
  • Some websites have review courses on-line ranging from no cost to varying fees.
  • Sample test outlines and certification questions are often supplied with the exam application.
  • Many texts and core curriculums are available for purchase.
  • A study group is often convened by a group of RNs preparing to take the same specialty certification exam.

Financial support is provided by the Department of Nursing's Demetri Souretis Fund for Professional Certification or the E. Louise Berke Fund for Gerontological Nursing. The fund will reimburse registered nurses for the cost of the specialty certification and re-certification exam. Exams range in cost from $150 to $600.
It does not cover the cost for study materials or review courses.
