The Institute for Patient Care, housed within MGH Patient Care Services (PCS), represents a first-of-its-kind, innovative model for advancing multidisciplinary health care.
The institute's four separate centers—The Norman Knight Nursing Center for Clinical & Professional Development, The Maxwell & Eleanor Blum Patient and Family Learning Center, The Yvonne L. Munn Center for Nursing Research and The Center for Innovations in Care Delivery— each maintain a unique focus that advances The Institute’s mission of developing and promoting multidisciplinary clinical care. With a commitment to fostering professional development among PCS clinicians, The Norman Knight Nursing Center offers one of the country’s top hospital-based nursing education programs. In the Blum Center, patient and family education remains the top priority, and the staff are dedicated to helping visitors learn from a wealth of health information resources. The Center for Innovations in Care Delivery offers an interdisciplinary approach to identifying opportunities for change, evaluating their impact and creating plans for their implementation. And within the Munn Center, leading nurse researchers focus on advancing nursing practice by utilizing evidence-based to improve health care delivery and outcomes.. Additionally, The Institute oversees several other PCS programs including collaborative governance, ethics and clinical decision-making, credentialing, workforce development, organizational evaluation, clinical affiliations, clinical recognition and international visitor offerings.
