Our division has been performing cosmetic and reconstructive surgery for nearly 40 years, hosting a number of clinical milestones including the world’s first microsurgical elective hand transfer and New England’s first TRAM-flap breast reconstruction.

  • Past and current presidents of major plastic surgical societies

They have also received grants and awards from the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons and many other prestigious organizations.

The Mass General Plastic Surgery Research Laboratory

Our doctors are constantly working to improve patient safety and develop sophisticated new surgical products and techniques. The Mass General Plastic Surgery Research Laboratory conducts an intensive, collaborative research program aimed at reshaping the landscape of surgical care.

Among the many exciting subjects currently under study are:

  • Breast prosthetic devices
  • Cleft lip and palate reconstruction
  • Craniofacial reconstruction
  • Tissue transplantation

Educating the Next Generation of Plastic Surgeons

Mass General offers one of the country's most competitive plastic surgery residency programs. The Harvard Combined Plastic Surgery Residency Training Program, a unique and valuable training opportunity, allows participants to rotate through five of Boston's top teaching hospitals.
