BiographyDr. Picker has been practicing Internal Medicine for over 30 years in a variety of settings, including solo private practice, affiliations with Brigham and Women's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and most recently MIT Medical. Her clinical interests span the gamut. Her practice includes preventive care, helping patients stay healthy, as well as diagnosing and managing patients with multiple complex medical problems. She sees her role as an Internist as being someone who knows a patient over time, coordinates their care with subspecialists, and helps put all the pieces together. She enjoys helping patients become "co-pilots" in their own care.
Over the years, she has participated in teaching medical students, precepting house staff, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. She enjoys extending the role of teacher to patients, enabling them to be more active participants in their own health care.
She was promoted to Assistant Professor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School based on clinical contributions. She served as medical director of BI Deaconess HealthCare/Newton as well as Medical Director of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Newton. She believes the best way to practice means incorporating the "art of medicine" along with the highest quality 21st century medical care.
She was recently awarded the Commitment to Care and Patients' Choice Awards at MIT Medical. She joined MGH in February 2012.
