 J. Stuart Ablon, PhD
Director

J. Stuart Ablon, Ph.D., is Director of the Psychotherapy Research Program in the Department of Psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ablon’s research focuses on empirical study of the process and outcome of various forms of psychotherapy using group and single case designs. Dr. Ablon and the late Dr. Enrico Jones pioneered a programmatic line of research using an empirical method for describing treatment process, the Psychotherapy Process Q-set. Dr. Ablon has authored numerous articles, chapters, scientific papers and books on psychotherapy process. His work has appeared in the Archives of General Psychiatry, the American Journal of Psychiatry, the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, and Psychological Bulletin amongst others. Dr. Ablon's research has been funded by, amongst others, the National Institute of Health, the American Psychological Association, the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Institute, and the Endowment for the Advancement of Psychotherapy. Dr. Ablon is a member of the Committee on Scientific Activities of the American Psychoanalytic Association and the editorial board of the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association.

Dr. Ablon received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of California at Berkeley and completed his predoctoral and postdoctoral training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
