  • Stepping to an Irish tune
    Irish step dancers performed in the Main Corridor at the MGH's St. Patrick's Day celebration March 17.
  • Hospital announces budget management plan
    Financial performance at the MGH from October through December 1998 was approximately $15 million behind budget. As a result, the hospital is taking steps to bring expenses and revenues back into line.
  • The MGH heads ventilator study
    A large clinical trial of mechanical ventilator use for intensive care patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has been stopped early so that critical care specialists around the country can be alerted to the study's successful results.
  • A leader of the community and beyond
    Thomas S. Durant, MD, assistant director of the MGH, recently received the Humanitarian Award from the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) at the organization's 71st annual dinner March 10 in Boston.
  • AIDS researchers receive Glaser Awards
    Two members of the Partners AIDS Research Center, based at the MGH, were honored last month by the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Paul Johnson, MD, and Philip Goulder, MRCP, DPhil, were among four recipients of the 1999 Elizabeth Glaser Scientist Awards, the only named research awards specifically for work in pediatric HIV/AIDS.
  • A DIALOGUE about complementary medicine
    Henry Mankin, MD, former chief of Orthopædic Surgery, James McIntyre, MD, MGH Radiation Oncology, Donna Greenberg, MD, MGH Psychiatry, and Paul Richardson, MD, from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, discussed the pros and cons of complementary medicine with patients, family and others from the MGH community March 16 in the Walcott Conference Room.
