In memoriam
Marshall K. Bartlett, MD, former director of MGH Operating Rooms, died
Dec. 14 at the age of 98. He joined the MGH surgical team in 1932.
Bartlett introduced and promoted a number of new approaches to the management
of surgical diseases, such as modified radical mastectomy. He pioneered
the formation of a group practice involving MGH surgeons; its development
ultimately provided the foundation of the Department of Surgery as it
exists today.
In his honor, the MGH Department of Surgery had recently endowed the Marshall
K. Bartlett Professorship of Surgery at Harvard Medical School.
For those who would like to contribute to the Marshall K. Bartlett Surgical
Fellowship, donations can be sent to the MGH Development Office, 55 Fruit
St., Boston, MA 02114.
