  • A different kind of medicine: healing through the arts
    It can be difficult to find giggles and smiles on a hospital pediatrics floor. But when Joan Drescher arrives at MassGeneral Hospital for Children, she often is greeted with the happy faces of pediatric patients eager to have some creative fun with her.
    Drescher is the artist-in-residence for MassGeneral Hospital for Children, and she shares her artistic talent with young patients as she wheels her "Imagination Kart" from room to room.
  • Study supports protective effect of stimulant treatment for ADHD
    An analysis of all studies that examine the impact of stimulant treatment for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) on future substance abuse supports the safety of stimulant treatment. Using a statistical technique called meta-analysis, the MGH researchers found that medication treatment for children with ADHD resulted in an almost two-fold reduction in the risk of future substance abuse. The report appears in the January issue of Pediatrics.

    With the recent influx of occurrences of Norwalk or Norwalk-like infections, there has been an increased concern and many questions about the virus. Below are some helpful facts about the Norwalk virus compiled by the MGH Infection Control Department.
  • Sticks and skates to support the United Way
    In support of the 2002 MGH United Way campaign, some of MGH's finest will take to the ice for a celebrity hockey game to raise money for the charity. The celebrity hockey event will pit a team of MGH hockey players against members of the "Black and Gold Legends" -- a team of former Boston Bruins players -- in a friendly competition.
  • Timilty Science Fair judges needed
    The MGH Timilty Partnership seeks MGHers to judge student science projects during the annual Science Fair Week at the James P. Timilty Middle School in Roxbury. Volunteers will be needed Feb. 10 to 13, from 9 to 11 am, beginning with the eighth grade on Monday and finishing with sixth graders on Thursday.
