MGH transplant patient goes
for the gold Bryan Wentzell describes his recent ski trip to the Swiss
Alps as an incredible experience. He was one of only 10 athletes from the United States to
compete in the Winter World Transplant Games.

gene that causes familial dysautonomia MGH researchers have identified the gene that causes
familial dysautonomia (FD), a degenerative neurological disorder found in the Ashkenazi
Jewish population, whose ancestors originated in Eastern Europe.
Special award to
recognize special employees Nominations are being accepted for the Susan and
Arthur Durante Award,which recognizes nonphysician staff for their compassion and
professionalism in serving cancer patients.
Composite image
depicts clinicians of the past The group portrait and composite image (below)
illustrates a photographic fad that was common in the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries, especially for the depiction of graduating classes. The blended
images were thought to capture the essence of the class.
Platinum Plate Month
for MGH Nutrition and Food Services MGH Nutrition and Food Services has designated
February as Platinum Plate Month. MGH employees who have a Platinum Plate card can buy
food during the month of February and receive a 5 percent discount

In memoriam Daniel L. Brown, an operations
associate in the Medical Intensive Care Unit on Blake 7, died suddenly
Dec. 19. Colleagues, family and friends are invited to attend a memorial
service for Brown Feb. 1.
