  • Black History Month recognized with celebration of difference
    As the MGH marked the advent of Black History Month, Patient Care Services (PCS) held a special celebration of diversity Feb. 9 in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. At the event, two guest speakers and six PCS employees were honored for their embodiment of "The Empowered Presence of Difference" in a PCS Pinning Ceremony.
  • Diverting a crisis: MGH improves emergency services
    Hospitals across the nation have been suffering from emergency room overload, forcing many — including the MGH to go on what is commonly referred to as "divert" status. Diversion occurs when a hospital can no longer safely and adequately care for noncritical patient transports, forcing ambulances to take those patients to other hospitals.
  • Have a good idea? 'Making a Difference' grants can turn it into a reality
    Many MGHers are on the lookout for creative ways to help improve a patient's experience at the hospital. Whether it is developing a new brochure that explains a patient's illness or simply sending a greeting card after a patient has been discharged, employees often know the added touches that can make a difference to a patient and/or patient's family.
  • 'Making a Difference': video chronicles what it takes to be an MGHer
    MGHers have many reasons why they come to work at the hospital the opportunities, the challenges, the tradition of excellence, the camaraderie and teamwork, and most of all, the ability to make a difference in the lives of patients, visitors and other employees. The many reasons why the MGH attracts employees from all over the world and from all walks of life are illustrated in a 14-minute video called "Making a Difference," which is being used as a hospital recruitment tool.
  • Unscrambling the genome puzzle
    Researchers from around the world came together this week to explain the latest findings from the Human Genome Project. The results were featured in a special issue of Nature magazine, published Feb. 15. Many MGH researchers have participated in the project, contributing significant data to the findings.
