  • MGH community comes together under extraordinary circumstances
After a powerful storm hit New England Feb. 17, leaving a record-breaking 27.5 inches of snow, most of Boston was brought to a standstill. But the MGH continued operations like a well-oiled machine caring for the sick, feeding staff, visitors and patients, and keeping hospital grounds maintained and free of snow.As a matter of course, MGHers are prepared for emergencies such as this — teaming together to ensure patients still receive the highest quality care. But behind the scenes, thousands of nonclinical employees work diligently to sustain smooth hospital operations under even the most extreme conditions.
  • In memoriam: Ricardo Diaz
A 12-year MGH employee, Ricardo Diaz of the MGH Buildings and Grounds Department, died Feb. 18 in a tragic accident while plowing snow from the sidewalks around the hospital.
  • A prayer for peace
In these uncertain and increasingly worrisome times, the desire for peace is all the more relevant and needed. In recognition of this need, the MGH Chaplaincy hosted an interfaith vigil Feb. 12 to pray for world peace and harmony.
  • The magnificent seven
Seven MGH employees were recognized for enhancing diversity at the MGH and contributing to the African American culture at the Patient Care Services annual African American Pinning Ceremony held Feb. 14.
  • Tomorrow's scientists shine at Timilty Science Fair
This year's annual Timilty Science Fair, held Feb. 10 to13, highlighted colorful experiments, proud mentors and bright smiles as more than 600 students from the James P. Timilty Middle School in Roxbury participated in the event. As in the past, MGHers were eager to cheer on tomorrow's scientists as they traveled to the school to judge the science fair projects. The science fair is a culmination of efforts by the MGH/Timilty Partnership, organized by MGH Community Benefits.
  • Twice as nice: Twin sisters deliver Valentine's Day surprise
Twin MGH patients delivered a double dose of joy just in time for Valentine's Day. After sharing their birthday for 32 years, the fraternal twin sisters now have two children who share the same birthday. Born two minutes apart, the sisters from East Boston gave birth at the MGH Feb.13. Marlene Forbes delivered Michael Anthony, and Michele D'Ambrosio delivered Dante Anthony.
