  • Mongan to succeed Thier as president and CEO of Partners
    James J. Mongan, MD, who has served as president of the MGH for the last six years, announced Feb. 19 that he has accepted the role of president and chief executive officer of Partners HealthCare. Mongan will succeed Samuel O. Thier, MD, who is stepping down from this leadership position at the end of December 2002.
  • MGH ambulatory care building update
    At the present time, construction work that will lead to a new MGH ambulatory care building mainly involves the creation of slurry walls — concrete structures extending 100 feet down from ground level to bedrock, forming the foundation walls. Slurry wall work began in late December, and will continue for approximately 60 work days.
  • New MGH newsletter supports "Two-Way Talk" with community
    Recognizing the vital bond between the hospital and surrounding community, the MGH is dedicated to keeping its neighbors informed about its programs, plans, projects and progress. With that goal in mind, the hospital has established a new method of communicating with Beacon Hill, West End/Charles River Park and other community members — a neighborhood newsletter entitled Two-Way Talk.
  • Making headway through history: AMMP speaker examines Boston's past, future
    Boston's journey to overcome bigotry and embrace equality has not been an easy one, but there is hope for the future. That was the message shared with an audience from the Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP) gathered for a presentation in honor of Black History Month in the Bulfinch Trustees Room Feb. 14. Guest speaker Charles Yancey, president of the Boston City Council, delivered a candid look both at his own rise to success in the face of adversity and at the past, present and future of the city itself.
  • Call for Durante Award nominations
    The MGH Cancer Center now is calling for nominations for the 2002 Susan and Arthur Durante Award for Exemplary Care and Service with Cancer Patients. The award recognizes clinical caregivers and support staff whose interaction with cancer patients reflects compassion, caring, exemplary performance and outstanding work.
