• Gene transfer could improve function of aging hearts Researchers from the MGH Cardiovascular
  Research Center (CVRC) have shown that delivering extra copies of a key gene to the heart muscle using gene therapy techniques can improve cardiac function in aging rats.

• MGH outlines plans for new ambulatory care building
  To address the need for more space at the hospital, the MGH has begun a planning process for building a new ambulatory care building and parking facility using part of the Charles Street Jail site.

• Happy anniversary Mass General Imaging-Chelsea
  After a successful first year, Mass General Imaging-Chelsea celebrated its anniversary Jan. 7. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art, diagnostic imaging devices to service patients on the North Shore and surrounding communities.

• Inquiring minds answered at the annual Timilty Science Fair
  Erin Heffernan, an eighth grader at the James P. Timilty Middle School in Roxbury,  was one of 540 students who presented science projects to their classmates, teachers and visiting MGH judges at the annual Timilty Science Fair held Feb. 14 to 18.

• MGHers bring hope to cardiac patients in China
  Through an international health education organization called Project Hope, a team of MGH cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, nurses and technicians recently visited the Second Military Hospital in Shanghai, China to help teach medical personnel about the treatment of heart disease.

• Bikers rev up their engines for the MGH Burn Unit
  Approximately 350 motorcycle riders journeyed from Quincy to Plymouth recently to raise money for the MGH Burn Unit in memory of fellow biker Joseph Conti, Jr.  The bikers raised $5,320 for the Joseph Conti Memorial Fund.
