  • Family travels halfway around the world for MGH care
    Edmond and June Lococo know firsthand how difficult it is to see a child in pain and to be unable to help him. When their 2 1/2-year-old son, Alfio, was diagnosed with a tumor in his bladder last year, the family not only had to care for a very sick child, but they also had to maneuver through a difficult health care system in their home city of Beijing, China.
  • BRA approves MGH plans for ambulatory care building
    The Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) voted March 7 to approve the MGH's plans for a new ambulatory care building. The plan will allow the hospital to add much-needed space for outpatient services, including the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal programs, women's health, MassGeneral Hospital for Children and the Cancer Center.
  • Alcohol linked to decreased hypertension risk in young women
    Moderate alcohol consumption can lead to a reduced risk of developing hypertension in young women, according to MGH and BWH researchers. The study results, published in the March 11 Archives of Internal Medicine, use data from the Nurses' Health Study II, which is based at BWH.
  • Sharing words of wisdom: Renowned lecturer speaks on grief
    For five years, the MGH Palliative Care Services staff has been instrumental in treating patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families. To celebrate their fifth anniversary at the hospital, the Palliative Care staff hosted a special presentation March 6 by renowned author and lecturer, Rabbi Earl Grollman.
  • New Partners general counsel and vice president
    Partners HealthCare president and chief executive officer, Samuel O. Thier, MD, announced this week the selection of Brent L. Henry as the new general counsel and vice president for Partners. Henry will be assuming the position June 1.
  • In memoriam
    The MGH community is invited to a memorial service for Alice Armstrong, RN, a longtime MGHer who died Jan. 30.
