  • Facing a needlestick injury: an employee's story
    As a nurse working in the Infectious Disease Unit, Sharon Irvin, RN, is all too familiar with needlestick injuries. She knows firsthand how a clinician can accidentally get stuck with a needle during patient care. Even though she knows the proper procedures for handling such an incident, Irvin was so stunned when it happened to her six months ago that she wasn't sure what to do at first.
  • A "phenomenal woman" shares insight, inspiration
    A nurse, professor, scholar, teacher and leaderwith this array of titles and accomplishments, E. Lorraine Baugh has earned the accolade "phenomenal woman." In an effort to share her wisdom and life lessons with women still "struggling to see themselves as phenomenal," Baugh came to the Burr Conference Room March 8 at the invitation of the Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP). Her presentation was both a speech of inspiration and a celebration of March as Women's History Month.
  • MGH General Store and Flower Shop promises something for everyone
    Huggable stuffed animals, fragrant fresh flowers, hand-painted scarves and MGH sweatshirts these are but a handful of the engaging items offered at the MGH General Store and Flower Shop. From the day in 1942 when the Ladies Visiting Committee (LVC) first opened a then-tiny General Store in the Moseley Building, patients, visitors and employees have defined the store as the heart of the MGH community. This heart of the hospital has undergone some major changes this yeara recent face lift to the exterior of its current location on Blake 1, and the appointment of a new director to transform what happens inside.
  • Shuttle gives mobility to medical students
    The days of parking nightmares and arduous treks for Harvard Medical School (HMS) students are over. The MGH Cancer Center, the MGH Executive Committee on Research and Partners Transportation now offer a shuttle service for medical students.
  • In memoriam
    All MGH employees, friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service for Lillian Regan of the MGH Radiology Department, March 23, 10:30 am in the Wellman Conference Room. Regan died Jan. 2 after a battle with cancer.
  • Talk Is (Not) Cheap
    Compassionate caregiving does not have to be a thing of the past even in the hectic world of modern medicine. The Massachusetts General Physicians Organization (MGPO), the MGH Risk Management Foundation and the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center will jointly sponsor "Talk Is (Not) Cheap," a forum and workshop about meeting the challenges of delivering compassionate and competent care within the current pace of medical practice.
