  • MGH cardiologist is star of "Survivor MD"
Medical school often is equal parts learning experience and stressful ordeal. Many doctors look back at their medical education and wonder how they made it through. Luanda Grazette, MD, MPH, of MGH Cardiology, can see firsthand how she did it — she can turn on her television and relive those days for herself. Grazette, along with six other Harvard Medical School (HMS) graduates, will be featured on the NOVA series "Survivor MD," airing March 27, April 3 and 10, 9 pm on PBS, locally on WGBH-Channel 2.
  • A whale of a treat for MGH children: Shamu pays a visit
Boston in March may lack the sparkling sunshine and tropical climate of Orlando, Fla. — but thanks to the compassion and dedication of an MGH nurse, her young daughter and a special team of visitors from SeaWorld, sunshine made its way to MassGeneral Hospital for Children March 16.
  • MGHer featured in book about successful women
Jeanette Ives Erickson, RN, MS, senior vice president for MGH Patient Care Services and chief nurse, is in good company with the likes of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, NBC News anchor Jane Pauley and actress/singer Florence Henderson, to name just a few. Ives Erickson, along with these famous women, is featured in a new book called "How Jane Won: 55 Successful Women Share How They Grew From Ordinary Girls to Extraordinary Women."
  • Visitor from afar: Yugoslavian cardiologist tours the MGH
With its rich history and world-renowned reputation, the MGH often is a destination for curious travelers and inquisitive dignitaries. One such visitor toured the MGH this week to see its Cardiology Services in action. Svetlana Broz, MD, is a noted cardiologist herself, and also is well known for her essays and writings about her homeland of Yugoslavia and war-torn Sarajevo. Broz visited the MGH as part of a trip to Boston and New York this week.
  • Irish eyes were smiling
It was like a breath of spring air at the MGH when Patient Care Services held its annual St. Patrick's Day celebration March 15 in the Main Corridor.
  • In memoriam
George Alleyne, an employee in the MGH Environmental Services Department who retired in November, died Jan. 22 after a brief illness. He was 83. A memorial service will be held March 28, 2 pm in the MGH Chapel. All MGH employees, friends and family are invited to attend.
