  • MGHers make a difference in Cuba
Despite the difficulties countries around the world are facing in this time of war, there are some people who still reach out with humanitarian efforts to communities in need. A small group of MGHers recently joined local elected officials, educators, business and civic leaders to bring a message of friendship, hope and help to the country of Cuba.
  • Deadline for HIPAA compliance coming soon
As of April 14, the federal Office of Civil Rights will be enforcing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which is a comprehensive federal law that gives patients the right to restrict certain uses of their medical information and to provide more privacy protection. HIPAA-related training has been taking place throughout the hospital for the last 10 months with a goal of complete compliance of 17,000 MGH employees by April 1.
  • A world of good: Avon Center benefits breast cancer patients
A woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes, according to the American Cancer Society. Fortunately for many patients there is a state-of-the-art facility that offers advanced breast imaging and surgical screening services all in one location — the Avon Foundation Comprehensive Breast Evaluation Center at the MGH. Named in recognition of support from the Avon Foundation, this center provides these two services side by side, allowing patients to schedule tests and surgeries with more ease.
  • Enter the race – Get into PACE
It may not have been the Boston Marathon, but a marathon-themed open house offered some competitive fun for MGH employees involved with the Patient Administrative Cycle Enhancements (PACE) project. Complete with a starting line, pom poms and a winners' photo finish line, MGHers gathered in the Walcott Conference Rooms to learn about the project, which is designed to make patient administration a smoother process for both patients and employees.
  • Hooping it up
The MGH Basketball League, which was formed almost 25 years ago, just ended another stellar season. The winning team, called the "Don't H8 Me" team won its second straight league championship this year, thanks in part to their coach Alan L. Brown, MD, of MGH Radiation Oncology.
