Is there a doctor in the house?

Physicians sometimes are asked to take care of the sick and injured even when they are not on duty. Two MGHers recently were called into action as they were taking a break from their hectic work schedule. Annie Chan, MD, and Edward Kiggundu, MD, of MGH Radiation Oncology, were eating their lunch in the Eat Street Cafe when someone nearby yelled: "Is there a doctor here? Someone needs help!"

Without hesitation, Chan and Kiggundu rushed over to find a man having a seizure. The two physicians quickly and efficiently took care of the man until Patient Transport Services arrived to take him to the Emergency Department.

"He will be just fine," Chan said calmly as she and Kiggundu returned to their places at the lunch table. All in a day's work at the MGH.
