Kerry's surgery a success

Presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry (left) came to the MGH March 31 to have outpatient surgery on his right shoulder to repair a torn tendon. Accompanied by his wife, Teresa Heinz, and an entourage of Secret Service agents and other members of his staff, Kerry was met by a contingent of local and national press upon entering the hospital. The surgery was declared a success by his surgeon Bertram Zarins, MD, of MGH Orthpædics, who said everything went "very smoothly." Zarins was assisted by Thomas Gill, MD. Kerry was released later in the day to recover at his home in Boston.
