  • Marathon miles add up for a good cause
    Known as one of the most famous hills in the running world, Heartbreak Hill in Newton between miles 20 and 21 of the Boston Marathon has long been dreaded by marathoners. But for those running with the 2002 MassGeneral Marathon Team on Marathon Monday, it was a welcomed site. More than 200 pediatric cancer patients, their families and friends of the runners gathered at Heartbreak Hill to cheer loudly and enthusiastically for the MGH runners.
  • MGH Volunteer Department wins national recognition
    While MGH employees, patients and visitors often recognize hospital volunteers for their services with a grateful gesture or a sincere "thank you," the MGH Volunteer Department received a national recognition recently. The department was honored for one of its programs by the American Hospital Association (AHA) for its "Language Bridge Project." The honor was bestowed at the AHA's annual Awards for Volunteer Excellence held April 8 at the AHA Annual Meeting and Conference in Washington, DC.
  • A grateful parent tells a tale of heroism at MassGeneral Hospital for Children
    As MassGeneral Hospital for Children recognizes Children and HealthCare Week, April 22 to May 5, clinicians not only celebrate the young patients who are successfully treated here, but also honor the families who have experienced the loss of a child.Carole Trainor is the mother of a child who died at MassGeneral Hospital for Children in 2001. Here, she shares the experience of her son's care at the MGH in her own words.
  • Illuminating spring with new beginnings
    Spring often is thought of as a season of renewal and new beginnings. So it seems fitting that the MGH Cancer Center's "Illuminations" art exhibit ushered in its spring display of artwork at the Northeast Proton Therapy Center (NPTC), which offers new beginnings to many cancer patients.
  • Organ donor awareness
    According to the New England Organ Bank, approximately 16 people die each day awaiting a life-saving organ transplant. In recognition of National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week, the MGH and the New England Organ Bank will host an information table in the White Lobby April 22 to 26, from 10 am to 2 pm, to provide information and answer questions about organ donation.
