  • New approach offers potential drug-discovery shortcut
    Researchers from the MGH Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) have developed a way of identifying promising new drugs that may get around a major challenge in drug discovery. In the May issue of Nature Biotechnology the team describes using an animal model to screen for a compound that suppresses a serious genetic mutation without first identifying a molecular target for the new drug, something that is a key bottleneck in current procedures.
  • Drill prepares MGHers for potential disasters
    In preparation for upcoming emergency exercises related to the Democratic National Convention, which will be held this summer at the Fleet Center, the MGH held a drill of its mobile Mass Decontamination Unit (MDU) April 7 on the White ramp.
  • Protecting your identity
    "Identity theft is the fastest growing crime — one in three people are affected by it," said Bonnie Michelman, director of MGH Police, Security and Outside Services, at a seminar "Safeguarding Your Identity from Theft" April 8 in the Wellman Conference Room.
  • MGH physician receives diversity award
    Henry Mankin, MD, of the MGH Department of Orthopædics, recently was presented
    the 2004 American Academy of Orthopædic Surgeons (AAOS) Diversity Award at the AAOS annual meeting.

  • Opening doors: Disabilities awareness showcased at the MGH
    The MGH Council on Disabilities Awareness (CDA) recently hosted a symposium, "Opening Doors: A Dialogue on Disabilities," which offered an opportunity for people with disabilities to share their experiences, advice and resources with the MGH community.

    The much-anticipated results of the first MGH Clean Sweepstakes competition among patient care units were announced last week. Congratulations go to Bigelow 9, Ellison 16, White 11, Ellison 17, White 12, Blake 12, Ellison 19 and Bigelow 13 for having the highest hand hygiene compliance before and after patient contact.
