Proactive Parenting
The Partners Employee Assistance Program and Partners Child Care Services
will offer "Proactive Parenting" May 4, from noon to 1 pm in
the Walcott 3 Conference Room. Guest speaker Lynne Reeves Griffin, RN,
MEd, has developed a skill-building approach to child development, temperament
and behavior modification. The seminar is for parents looking for practical
approaches to parenting and for those struggling with day-to-day conflict.

Summer job programs
Part-time summer help is available for all MGH departments this year through
two MGH Community Benefits programs. SummerWorks is a career exploration
and internship program for graduating eighth graders from the James P.
Timilty Middle School. SummerWorks combines weekly interactive professional
development workshops with real work experience. Students spend 23 hours
per week at the hospital during the summer. The Jobs for Boston Youth
program provides SummerWorks program alumni and students from East Boston
High School with job opportunities at the MGH as well. Students spend
25 hours per week at the hospital. For more information about SummerWorks,

5K Run for Asthma
In observance of World Asthma Day 2004, the MGH will hold its second annual
5K Run for Asthma May 2. The goal of the event is to improve asthma awareness
and benefit asthma research at the MGH. Sponsors, volunteers and race

STD Update 2004
The Massachusetts Medical Society and the STD/HIV Prevention Training
Center of New England will sponsor "STD Update 2004" May 6,
from 12:45 to 4:30 pm at the Massachusetts Medical Society Headquarters,
860 Winter St. in Waltham. Donna Felsenstein, MD, medical director of
the General Infectious Disease Unit at the MGH, will be one of the featured

Eating disorders symposium
The Neuroendocrine Unit and the Harvard Eating Disorders Center of MGH
will sponsor a symposium "Eating Disorders Throughout the Lifespan"
May 21, from 9 am to 12:30 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. Registration
and a continental breakfast will be from 8 to 9 am. Registration is required

Clinical Pastoral Education Program fellowship
Through funding from the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center and the MGH Department
of Nursing, fellowships are available for the winter 2005 MGH Clinical
Pastoral Education Program. The program is open to individuals from any
discipline who work directly with patients and/or families in a health
care setting and who wish to integrate spiritual caregiving skills into
their professional practice. Six Kenneth B. Schwartz Fellowships will
be awarded to caregivers from disciplines other than pastoral care. Two
Spiritual Caregiver Fellowships will be given to registered nurses in
the MGH Department of Nursing who are in direct caregiver roles and have
a minimum of two years experience. The program is part-time and will run
from Jan. 3 through May 20, 2005. Sessions will be held every Monday
excluding Jan. 17 and April 25 from 9 am to 5 pm. Additional hours
will be negotiated for the clinical component. All applications are due

Partners Responsible Conduct of Research
Program
The Partners Responsible Conduct of Research Program will be held May
12, from 5 to 9 pm in the Wellman Conference Room. Registration will begin
at 4 pm. The program is designed to fulfill National Institutes of Health
ethics training requirements for all pre-doctoral and post-doctoral National
Research Service Award trainees who are receiving support from individual
or institutional grants, fellowships or awards. Participants must attend
the entire session to receive a certificate of completion. For more information

Children and HealthCare Week fair
MassGeneral Hospital for Children will sponsor the "Jump Aboard for
Good Health" health fair as part of Children and HealthCare Week
April 30, from 9 am to 3 pm under the Bulfinch tent. Approximately 50
interactive stations related to health, the science of the body and coming
to the hospital will be set up. Artwork submitted by pediatric patients,
children of employees and students from local schools will be displayed
