  • Brian McGovern, MD: Remembering a physician, colleague and friend
    Every seat in the O'Keeffe Auditorium was taken April 19. Two overflow rooms were filled beyond capacity. The aisles of the auditorium were crowded with people craning to see the podium and hear the words of remembrance for a beloved and world-renowned cardiologist, Brian McGovern, MD, who was killed April 8 in a senseless tragedy that stunned and saddened the hospital community.The memorial service, which was designed for McGovern's patients, also included colleagues, family, friends and MGH employees who came to hear eloquent words and heartfelt messages about the man who touched so many lives in his extraordinary 23-year career at the MGH.

    A fter the terrible tragedy that occurred April 8 that took the life of renowned MGH cardiologist Brian McGovern, MD, condolences and messages have streamed into the MGH from colleagues, patients, friends and family members from all across the country and from his home country of Ireland.
  • Overcoming grief: the EAP offers employees confidential counseling
    In recent weeks, the MGH community has been directly affected by tragic and unprecedented events. In times of crisis and pain, MGHers can look to internal resources such as the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to provide comfort and counseling. The EAP is a workplace-based consultation, short-term counseling, information and referral program for employees and their families. The services provided are free, confidential and voluntary.
